I finally made my own winter coat

Ook het maken van een winterjas staat al even op mijn lijstje.  

En wanneer ik zeg "al even" overdrijf ik zeker niet!  Ik denk dat ik al zeker 2 jaar met dat plan rondloop, maar het kwam er maar niet van.  

 Ik ben dan ook zo koppig dat ik liever zonder jas rondloop dan dat ik er eentje ga kopen.  

I stick to the plan!

En zo komt het dus dat ik heel de vorige winter zonder jas rondliep.

 Making a winter jacket is on my sewwinglist for a long time.
And when I say "for a long time" I certainly don't exaggerate! 

I think I've been with that plan for at least 2 years, but it just didn't happen.
  I am so stubborn that I would rather walk around without a coat than buy one.
I stick to the plan!
And so it happened that I walked around without a coat the entire last winter.

 Ik denk dus dat ik Tami, de ontwerpster van Love Notions, moet bedanken.  Doordat zij de prachtige Octave coat ontwierp ben ik gespaard gebleven van opnieuw een verkleumde winter.

So I think I should thank Tami, the designer of Love Notions. Because she designed the beautiful Octave coat, and so I was spared from another cold winter.

Deze jas zit enorm goed.  Het is alsof hij voor mij ontworpen is.  Ik koos voor de versie met de kap, maar de kraag, die ook inbegrepen is in het Octave coat patroon, is ook super leuk en zorgt onmiddelijk voor een andere "look".

Mijn jas is trouwens volledig gevoerd, maar ook een ongevoerd exemplaar is mogelijk.

This coat fits really well. It's like it was designed for me. I chose the version with the hood, but the collar, which is also included in the Octave coat pattern, is also super nice and immediately creates a different "look". 

My coat is also fully lined, but an unlined coat is also possible.

Het stofje is gekookte wol uit mijn stoffenvoorraad (het was een deel van het plan dat ik toch nooit zou uitvoeren 😉).  Ik weet zelfs niet meer waar ik het kocht.

Niet zo'n fan van wol?  

Elke stof met een beetje dikte kan gebruikt worden, denk maar aan fleece, teddy, ... 

The fabric is boiled wool from my fabric stock (it was part of the plan that I would never implement toch). I don't even know where I bought it anymore.
Not such a fan of wool?
Any fabric with a bit of weight can be used, just think of flannel, fleece, teddy, ...

Oké, ik heb dan wel kou geleden vorige winter, maar volgens mij was het toch het wachten waard 💖.

De jas was trouwens helemaal niet moeilijk om te naaien, iets waar ik van schrok.  Ik naaide al heel wat kleedjes die dubbel zo ingewikkeld waren.

De Cape Cod Capelet zit echt in now time in elkaar.  Ik denk echt dat het omzomen 

het meeste werk is, verder is er echt niks aan.

Ik ben heel erge fan van deze cape met zijn ruime raglan mouwen, mooie losse kraag 

en hoog-laag zoomlijn 💖.

The Cape Cod Capelet is really easy to sew. I really think that hemming is the most work, 

there is really nothing else about it.
I am a big fan of this cape with its spacious raglan sleeves, beautiful loose collar 

and high-low hemline💖 .

De Cape lijkt mij ook een ideaal kerstcadeau!  

Je kan hem immers naaien zonder dat je de precieze maten kent. De pasvorm is immers erg ruim.

The Chelsea skirt in Terracotta Coduroy

Als ik denk aan herfstkleding dan denk ik aan corduroy.  

En welke kleur doet er meer aan de herfst denken dan terracota?  

Mix deze 2 bij elkaar en het mooie terracotta Corduroy stofje van De Stoffengallerij

 Naaien met Corduroy deed mij op voorhand toch even mijn wenkbrauwen fronzen.  Ik had nog nooit met deze stof gewerkt.  Moest ik ergens rekening mee houden?

Ik deed wat opzoekwerk en eigenlijk viel het allemaal reuze goed mee.  

2 tips die ik je alvast kan meegeven:

- Corduroy heeft kleurverschil afhankelijk in welke richting je het gebruikt.  Je moet dus al je patroondelen in dezelfde richting leggen op je stof voor je gaat knippen.

- Om de vezels van de corduroy niet te schaden leg je best een badhanddoek of een ander stuk corduroy onder je corduroy om te voorkomen dat je de structuur van de vezels beschadigd.
Mijn ervaring is nu dat het eigenlijk een super makkelijk stofje is om te knippen, te manipuleren en te naaien. Een echte aanrader dus.

Sewing with Corduroy made my eyebrows frown in advance. I never had workedwith this fabric. 
Did I have anything to take into account?
I did some research and actually it was really easy.
2 tips that I can already give you:
- Corduroy has color difference depending on which direction you use it. So you have to lay all your pattern pieces in the same direction on your fabric before you cut them out.
- In order not to damage the fibers of the corduroy, it is best to place a bath towel or another piece of corduroy under your corduroy to prevent damage to the structure of the fibers.
My experience now is that it is actually a super easy fabric for cut, manipulate and sew. Highly recommended.

 Het patroon dat ik voor deze leuke doorknooprok gebruikt heb is 

de Chelsea Skirt van Pattern Emporium.

Deze A-lijn rok is opgebouwd uit panden die allemaal netjes getopstitched worden.   

Het patroon heeft drie lengtes en drie zakopties.  Ik koos voor mijn rok de knielengte en de Utility pockets.  Het patroon zit zeer goed in elkaar en bevat gedetailleerde instructies, deze rok is zeker doenbaar voor dames van elk naainiveau.

 The pattern I used for this fun button-down skirt is
the Chelsea Skirt from Pattern Emporium.
This A-line skirt is made of panels that are all neatly topstiched.
The pattern has three lengths and three pocket options. I chose the knee length and the Utility pockets for my skirt. The pattern is very well very well drawn and contains detailed instructions, this skirt is certainly doable for ladies of every sewing level.

The Grace tunic in a beautiful fabric

Ken je dat gevoel?  Je ziet een stofje en je hart slaat spontaan een slag over?

Dat had ik toen ik dit prachtige stofje van De Stoffengalerij zag.

I had that when I saw this beautiful fabric from De Stoffengalerij.

Het is een viscose stofje van Hilco en ik moet eerlijk bekennen dat ik zelden zo'n zachte stof door mijn handen voelde glijden.  De basiskleur is donkergroen met daarop blauwe, witte en zacht oranje bloemen.

Dit stofje vroeg om een mooi patroon.

 It is a viscose fabric from Hilco and I must admit that I rarely felt such a soft fabric glide through my hands.  The basic color is dark green with blue, white and soft orange flowers on top.
This fabric asked for a beautiful pattern.

Meestal start ik vanuit een patroon om dan op zoek te gaan naar de gepaste stof.  

Deze keer werkte ik dus andersom.

Een hele tijd terug maakte ik reeds de Grace Dress van Warderobe by me.

Dit patroon heeft echter ook een tuniek versie met een prachtige, afgeronde zoom, en die stond al voor eeuwig op mijn "to sew" lijstje.

 I usually start from a pattern and then I search for the fabric, so this time 

I worked the other way around.
A long time ago I already made the Grace Dress from Warderobe by me.
However, this pattern also has a tunic version with a beautiful curved hem, 

it has been on my "to sew" list for ages.

 

 Het patroon vraagt om een mooi doorvallende stof en dat is deze ultra zachte viscose zeker!

Uit al de opties koos ik voor de lange mouwen (met mouwboordjes), het opstaande kraagje en een touwtje aan de halslijn (want ik geef toe, zo'n strikje vind ik toch stiekem echt tof 💖).

 The pattern requires a drapy fabric and this ultra-soft viscose is for sure! A match made in heaven!

 Out of all the options, I opted for the long sleeves (with cuffs), the stand-up collar and a string on the neckline (because I admit, I think that such a bow tie is really really cool 💖).
